Brain injury rehabilitation is a highly specialised area where a patient's successful recovery relies on their needs being quickly identified, recovery targets set and met, vital resources found and key people identified and trained. It sounds relatively straightforward, yet it's surprising how often it doesn't happen for one reason or another – and often to the detriment of the patient.
As a brain injury rehabilitation specialist I offer practical and emotional support to both brain injured patients and their carers, helping them come to terms with their situation and teaching them skills to get their lives back on track. With more than 30 years medical experience, I am adept at finding my way through the health care and social service systems, and can tap into educational and other community resources whenever they're needed.
I'm happy to travel to meet patients who cannot come to see me and offer counselling support and training to those involved in the rehabilitation process so they can learn how to relate to and support brain injured patients.
I believe effective support must take into account the whole person and their life in context and can provide a completely personalised service for each patient and coordinate rehabilitation for individuals in their own homes. As one of only a handful of brain injury rehabilitation specialists who undertake both treatment case work and case management, I'm frequently called to appear as an expert witness in court.
This website explains the services I offer and my unique, thorough approach to brain injury rehabilitation.
